Responsible Catteries ensure their breeding stock is free of genetic abnormalities prior to entering them into their breeding program.  While we purchased our breeding stock from Catteries that tested, we wanted to see the results for ourselves.  So in 2017 we performed testing through Neogen's GeneSeek Operations Lab offered by CFA, on all of our unrelated breeders.  Since then, we have switched over to testing with My CatScan (still Neogen) as they test for more than 120 different diseases and traits commonly found in cats.  This in depth testing gives us considerable insight into the health of our cats and the potential health of their offspring.  We are proud to confidently say all of our breeding stock has tested -/- for every health condition to include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and polycystic kidney disease (PKD). 

 

While we would love to post our results here, we're aware the rampant fraud now impacting the breeding world.  Therefore, results will be made available via request.  So just ask and we will happily share them.

 

Additionally, we have begun utilizing a unique service provided by PawPeds that calculates the estimated percentage of inbreeding resulting from a mating.  This service is specifically geared towards Maine Coons as the amount of inbreeding in the bloodlines today is in the double digits for most cats.  While you may think two cats are completely unrelated due to where they came from, you may be surprised to find they have an ancestor in common.  Which is why we have started using this service to keep that percentage low in our offspring which will result in healthier kittens.
