About us

Thank you for taking an interest in this gentle giant and our little Cattery.  We stumbled on this breed by accident many years ago.  We just happened to find an adult red tabby Maine Coon at the local animal shelter while searching for a kitten for our daughter.  He was so sweet and had such a great personality and he was huge!  We just had to bring him home.  Hemingway was our introduction to this very unique breed and led us to purchasing Rome, our first purebred Maine Coon.  Rome has such a wonderful personality – he’s my kid’s best friend.  The best way to describe him is that he’s very much is a dog wearing a cat suit.  Maine Coons love to be with their people - they like to be in the thick of things unlike your typical cat.  Rome is always where the kids are  - if they eat, he eats with them, if they sleep, he curls up and sleeps with them.  He is the most amazing cat and the reason why we decided to take the plunge and breed these magnificent cats all those years ago.

Once you own a Maine Coon, we rather doubt you will ever want any other breed. With that said, we're obviously prejudiced to the Maine Coon Breed.  So our best advice to any perspective client is to do your research, and make sure the personality of the breed you want to bring home fits with your lifestyle and family.  Once you decide that a Maine Coon is right for your family, you need to research the breeder.  There are a lot of us out there, some are better than others, so make sure you do your homework and don't be afraid to ask the breeder hard questions.  We here at WildFireCoon like to ensure our clients are well informed before they decide to join our WildFireCoon family so if you have questions, please ask!

WildFireCoon Cattery was established in August of 2013 when we brought home Pixie (retired) and Dixie (also retired).  Shortly after that we added Mojo (retired), our gorgeous silver and white tabby male.  Since then we have grown quite a lot, adding a variety of colors to ensure we have something for everyone.  We have also imported a few of our cats from Russia to bring in that lovely feral look I love so much.  All of our cats have such sweet personalities and are so playful and loving!  They love to spend time with their human family as well as spend time playing with each other and taking care of the kittens.  When we have a litter on the ground, it becomes a community effort to raise the kittens properly.  It really is quite amazing to watch!  We are so excited about the future of our Cattery and can't wait to see what the future holds!

OUR CATTERY: We live on a 16 acre farm with cows, chickens, peacocks and our dogs.  When our girls are not working they are free to roam about our home, sleep in our beds or warm our laps as they please.  Our Kings are given a room just for them in the Cattery where they can do their jobs in peace.  I strongly encourage prospective kitten buyers to visit a Cattery before selecting a kitten to ensure they are raised in a clean and healthy environment.  While most breeders will not allow you to enter the actual "Cattery" for health reasons (to include me) - however, you will know immediately upon entering the home whether it is well kept or not.

We try to be with all litters when they are born to ensure kittens and mommas are all healthy and safe.  All kittens are handled daily from birth and are well socialized prior to being placed in new homes at a minimum of 12 weeks or age.  Our children help in the socialization of the kittens under our watchful eye and are the reason our kittens are so well adjusted.

No one who has placed a deposit to reserve a kitten, is required to take a kitten home that they are not 100% pleased with. Satisfaction, as well as health, are guaranteed here at WildFireCoon Cattery.  However, once a kitten has been reserved, we have the right to keep the deposit should the buyer decide not to purchase the kitten.  So before you decide to put the deposit down, do your research to be sure you're getting the right kitten for you.

Due to the changes in federal regulations and the inconsistency of the airlines in today's world, we only ship kittens by airfreight by exception. It is preferred you to come to the cattery in order to pick up your new kitten(s), or if you are unable to come to our home we could recommend a reliable courier.  On occasion we can meet clients halfway or further depending on circumstances.  Shipping is stressful on the kitten and owner alike.  Additionally, the weather dictates the availability of shipping which may not marry up with your availability or desired pick up date of the kitten.  Picking up your kitten in person also gives you the chance to refuse a kitten that does not meet your expectations.

We breed for the wild look and a fiery passion for play – hence our name “WildFireCoon”.  We have both American and European bloodlines giving us a nice blending of both.  Our cats are excellent representatives of the breed, with the trademark big, tall ears with long lynx points, heavy coats, excellent health, and good temperament.  We just ask for clients to remember that kittens take time to develop their coats and will go through a "teenage" stage before they develop the big beautiful coat you expect to see.

WildFireCoon stands for: top quality kittens, bred for health, temperament, and size. This is the largest domestic breed, so size is typically a strong consideration when clients are looking for a kitten.  While we cannot guarantee your kitten will grow to be a massive giant, we can tell you that our males grow to be an average of 18 lbs - 22 lbs, some have been reported to be around 26 lbs.  Our girls tend to range between 12-14 lbs with a girl or two that have grown to 22 lbs.  Their size largely depends on the diet you provide; we recommend a food that is high in protein which is essential for a young, growing Maine Coon.

Our breeding cats have been genetically tested for many common ailments to include HCM and PKD and SMA.  The testing results will be provided upon request.  Unfortunately, due to the potential for fraud, we will not post our DNA results or their registration paperwork on this site.  All of the kittens bred here can be registered with TICA (The International Cat Association).  If a client elects to register their kitten, they may do so at their own expense - this is not a requirement.  Any kittens sold as pets are required to be spayed/neutered.  (Registration is not included in the purchase price and will not be provided until a vet has certified spaying/neutering has occurred).

Kittens are placed in new homes at a minimum of 12 weeks of age or more. They are thoroughly examined by our Vet (Dr. Gregory Noll at Noll Veterinary Hospital in Springfield, OH).  One of the most important things to ask a breeder is: Have your kittens been seen by a Vet?  If not, you have no idea what you are purchasing health wise!  Nor does the breeder have any idea what they are selling health wise unless they themselves are vets.  This is why we have Dr. Noll examine our litters - we want to be absolutely sure we are providing you with a healthy kitten.  Most kittens receive their first and second set of shots while they are with us.  You will be provided with their health record to give to your vet as well as Dr. Noll's business card to ensure your vet is able to reach him should there ever be an issue.

We highly encourage our prospective clients to come to our home to meet our available cats/kittens in person.  While kittens always look cute in a picture, a picture cannot convey their personality or how beautiful they truly are.  So we highly encourage prospective families to come meet the kittens to make their selection if possible.  This gives you an opportunity to get a feel for us and how well we take care of our cats.  Once our kittens reach 6-8 weeks of age, we invite our clients to come meet their kitten.  As much as we would like to say you can reserve your kitten based solely on personality, this is nearly impossible.  Our kittens tend to go quite fast once we announce they are available for adoption.  Additionally, it's important to note, a kitten's personality evolves over time, and the personality you may have expected when you met your kitten at 6-8 weeks, may be different by the time they are 12 weeks, or older.  We can never guarantee a kitten will be a lap cat, or be super playful, or like to be in the thick of things.  However, the vast majority of our kittens are quite playful and do enjoy being where their people are - even when they have guests over.  So please schedule a visit, we are available most weekends, and during the week we are available most evenings.

Once a client has made the commitment to adopt one of our fur babies, we like to do weekly posts when possible on our Facebook Page so you can watch your kitten grow and get a sense of their personality long before you bring them home.  We even offer video calls so you can watch them play in real time.  This is one service that sets us apart from other Catteries.  If you would like to see pictures more often, just let us know and we'll snap you a few!

One very important thing to remember is that this breed grows extremely fast, but matures extremely slow!  The kittens go through what I like to call an teenage period (from 6 to 18 months) they will be long and lean, almost thin looking as they grow so fast.  But as they mature, their conformation will change (muscles develop) and they become extremely strong and massive in size.  Between 3-5 yrs of age they will really begin to fill out and pack on the weight.  If you feel they are starting to get too heavy, it may be time to change their cat food to one that helps them to maintain a healthy weight a bit better.  A Maine Coon has a similar life span as a regular house cat (12-18 years), so you can expect them to be a member of your family for quite some time!

Our advice to kitten buyers: Visit a number of catteries. Make sure you are getting the kitten you really want.  This is a long-term commitment.  You are not only buying a pet, but a companion as well.  This will become quickly apparent once you get your new Maine Coon Kitten settled and adjusted to its new home.  You have truly purchased something different and unique from any other pet!

Our Policies

Screening: Be prepared to answer questions about your family situation, lifestyle and present & previous pets. Our goal is to try to find the best possible match between kitten and potential owner(s).  As we mentioned in the "About Us" section, we can't guarantee you will get the perfect personality you envisioned, but we will do our best to ensure you are making the right choice in adopting a kitten from us.

Replacement/Refunds:  Replacement/refunds are only entertained for a kitten that is found to be medically deficient with an untreatable or life threatening condition, and the Cattery must be notified immediately and provided the written statement from the servicing veterinarian.  Any cat or kitten returned must be tested for feline leukemia and the fee for this is the responsibility of the purchaser.  Under no circumstances will a refund be provided for a kitten that the client refuses to return but claims is sick.  The breeder reserves the right to provide a suitable replacement of equal or lesser value within one year, or a cash refund.

Just as you would have in a pet store, any kitten that is picked up in person is not eligible for a refund or replacement based solely on personality or condition of their coat.  Our clients have the right to refuse a kitten at any time during the adoption process.  We provide weekly updates and invite clients to meet their kittens prior to pick up which offers many opportunities for the client to refuse the kitten.  If the kitten is not what you expected at the time of pick up, refuse it!  DO NOT take a kitten home that you are unhappy with.  We also expect people to make a commitment to their new pet and give it every opportunity to fit in.  Some kittens adjust quickly, others may take up to a month to feel at home.  Please be mindful of this prior to adopting a kitten.

Health Guarantee: All WildFireCoon kittens are sold at a minimum age of 12 weeks when they are fully weaned, wormed and have received the first two sets of standard vaccinations (a second vet visit is not always possible due to conflicts with client schedule or vet availability).  The purchaser will receive a written health guarantee as part of our contract.  While we do our best to ensure that every kitten is in perfect health when it leaves, we suggest that you schedule a check up with your veterinarian within 72 hrs if possible.  If the kitten develops a problem within the first week, the purchaser has the option of returning the kitten for a refund (less the deposit) or a replacement kitten, if available.  Under no circumstances will we be responsible for any veterinary costs incurred by the purchaser (including dental cleaning).  A client should be aware that kittens often become stressed when moved from the breeder’s home to the client's home – specifically during shipping.  During the stress, they may exhibit temporary signs of illness including but not limited to sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, diarrhea or constipation. These symptoms are usually temporary and should go away within a few days to a week if the kitten is not further stressed. Breeder asks that the kitten be isolated from other cats and no sharing of litter boxes, food or water bowls for a minimum of 72 hours.

Neuter/Spay Contract: All WildFireCoon kittens sold as pets have a neuter/spay contract (if not already neutered or spayed at the time of sale).

No Declawing - we strongly disagree with the idea of declawing cats. If any of the kittens produced and sold by WildFireCoon Cattery are declawed, that automatically disqualifies the buyer from any and all health guarantees provided at time of sale!

Registration Papers: All WildFireCoon cats and kittens are registered with TICA.  The breeder will provide registration papers upon receiving a certificate of neutering that describes your kitten from your vet as proof the kitten has been neutered or spayed (unless already neutered or spayed at time of sale).  Please note that the fee for registering a litter of kittens is minimal and we do not offer a discount for kittens sold without papers.

Non-Refundable Deposits: Deposits are $500 and are taken in good faith and are non-refundable. The deposit is considered compensation for any loss of sales during the time the kitten is listed as reserved or sold. I do not know any Breeders that do not do non-refundable deposits.

Shipping:  We prefer not to ship, however if you are unable to pick up your cat in person we will ship on occasion.  Please keep in mind shipping is largely dependent on the weather conditions, and can be a stressful time for your kitten.

Paid Waiting List:  We do operate a paid waiting list which we realize not everyone is comfortable with.  For those who are not comfortable with this practice, we invite you to like our Facebook Page so you receive notifications when birth announcements are made.  Operating the list this way ensures we are working with serious clients who are committed to adopting a WildFireCoon kitten.  The $500 deposit will reserve a kitten from the litter of your choice.  If that litter fails to produce a kitten that catches your eye, you can defer to another litter of your choice for up to one year.  Likewise, if an available kitten catches your eye you can swap.  All available kittens are offered to the waiting list in date order prior to being offered to the public.  Additionally, we only accept 3 deposits per litter in lieu of the kittens birth.  This greatly increases the odds of getting a kitten you absolutely love without having to settle for the last kitten in the litter.  Hopefully that all makes sense, and if not, please don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you for taking the time to carefully read our cattery policies. If you are interested in a WildFireCoon kitten or cat, or have other questions, please feel free to e-mail or call me, our contact information can be found at the bottom of this page.
